Theme of the Year 2025 - 2026

Your plate and our planet are connected. Behind every meal lies a story

The water used, the soil cultivated, the food transported… and the climate impacts that result. Today, climate change is no longer a distant threat — it is already disrupting our lifestyles, our health, and our food. Droughts, floods, water scarcity, declining crop yields, and food insecurity for the most vulnerable populations… these challenges are mounting and putting our way of producing and eating at risk.

In this context, food is at the heart of the climate battle. Producing, processing, transporting, and consuming food all have a major impact on greenhouse gas emissions and natural resources. But the reverse is also true: without a stable climate, food security is impossible.

This challenge is immense, but it is not insurmountable. Everywhere, local initiatives are emerging sustainable farming practices, short supply chains, reducing food waste, and innovations for responsible consumption. Young people have a central role to play in investigating, reporting, and showcasing these good practices that open the way to a fairer and more sustainable future.

With your perspective, creativity, and energy, you can inspire change. Through the Young Reporters for the Environment competition, make your voice heard and prove that youth can transform climate challenge into an opportunity for a more just and sustainable world.
